Rec-a-weekend 2015 | Week 21

Title: L.E.S. Artistes
Medium: video
Vidder: cherryice
Fandom: Terminator
Characters/Pairings: Sarah Connor, Kyle Resse, John Connor, Miles Dyson
Summary: Sarah Connor. To tell it straight, I'm trying to build a wall.
Wordcount: -
Why it's awesome: A fantastically edited video centered around Sarah Connor from the first two Terminator movies but looking at other people as well. The vid offers some chilling moments and a lot of insight into the characters it adresses.

Rec-a-weekend 2015 | Week 19 - 2

Title: Dragons
Medium: fic
Fandom: True Detective
Characters/Pairings: Marty Hart, Rust Cohle
Summary: In Marty’s opinion, parking lots are haunted fucking places. Nothing good ever happened to him in a parking lot.
Marty, guilt, and comeuppance.
Wordcount: 2,289
Why it's awesome: I really like this fic because it presents a great view on character developement. Because sometimes a person is an asshole and then they grow and move away from being an asshole, but the fact remains that once upon a time they have been an asshole and the shitty things they did are still on them.

Rec-a-weekend 2015 | Week 19 - 1

I really sucked at making rect these last few weeks, so I'll try to make some more this week. Which is why I decided that the weekend starts now. Also, I now also rec things other than stories.

Title: All that Remains
Medium: video
Vidder: Joyo
Fandom: Gravity
Characters/Pairings: -
Summary: All flesh is grass
Wordcount: -
Why it's awesome: Purely instrumental music isn't easy to vid and the videos don't always hold my attention. This one does, thanks to the great, intense editing. I have rewatched it a couple of times now and every time I notice details that I didn't see before.

Rec-a-weekend 2015 | Week 14

Title: Escapism
Author: Pepper
Fandom: Terminator
Characters/Pairings: Sarah Connor/Kyle Reese
Summary: Sarah takes Kyle to a movie theater.
Wordcount: ca. 2.300
Why it's awesome: There aren't a lot of fics around for the original Terminator movie, and even fewer that aren't horribly depressing. While I don't mind being horribly depressed by fanfic three days out of four, it's nice to find something cute and fluffy every now and again. This is one of those fics. Kyle doesn't die and things are generally a lot happier than canon. At the same time the fic acknowledges that even if Kyle had made it, things wouldn't have been easy, on a general day-to-day base, considering where he comes from and the fact that his history is about 90 % war-related trauma. I love Sarah in this fic, who comes to accept that all the nice, fun things she'd planned to do with him in that one deleted scene are just not going to happen and just takes it in stride, never tries to force anything and just helps where she can, enjoying her little victories if she scores one.
Contains hot dogs.

Rec-a-weekend 2015 | Week 13

Title: Yesterday, upon the stair
Fandom: True Detective
Characters/Pairings: Marty Hart, Rust Cohle
Summary: When Maggie kicks him out, Marty rents an apartment only to find out he’s not exactly alone.
Wordcount: 2.255
Why it's awesome: One of the more uplifting pieces in the fandom, despite the fact that Rust dies before they even meet and could now pass for a disgruntled cat, if he were more cat-shaped and substantial. Marty is taking this whole haunting pretty well, considering, and altogether the whole thing seems surprisingly like something that could have happened.

Rec-a-weekend 2015 | Week 12

Title: and darlin', you'll be gone in the morning
Fandom: Star Wars
Characters/Pairings: Leia Organa/Han Solo
Summary: She wonders, staring up at the cracked ceiling of her (his) cabin, whether or not her twelve year old self would have ever imagined her to at some point in the future land herself in a situation where she is lying naked in an (ex?) smuggler’s cabin while escaping the wrath of the Galactic Empire, stranded in space with no light speed, a disturbingly perceptive wookiee and a droid whose only function seems to be worrying.
Wordcount: 2.672
Why it's awesome: It's a great character piece on Leia in a too-long moment with nothing to do while drifting in a ship with a broken engine - when there's nothing to distract her from the memories of her captivity, the grief of losing her homeworld, or the fact that she's falling in love with the worst person ever.

Rec-a-weekend 2015 | Week 11

Title: Catch a falling star
Fandom: Alien Movies
Characters/Pairings: Dwayne Hicks/Ellen Ripley, Newt, Bishop, David
Summary: Alien3 AU – Sometimes family is all you have left.
Wordcount: 5.665
Why it's awesome: For starters, no one is randomly killed off before the start of the story. It's a great fic in which Ripley and the others become space pirates of sorts and still try to save the universe from Aliens. They do a lot of important stuff, and yet there is something comfortably domestic about it all. The characterisation is beautiful, and the romance feels real and natural. In a universal sense, the fic hardly offers a happy ending, but from a personal point of view it very much does.

Rec-a-weekend 2015 | Week 10

So I kind of skipped weeks 5 through 9. That's because I broke my wrist and am only now slowly regaining the ability to type with both hands. It's not like anyone reads these anyway, so I feel that's a good enough excuse.

Title: Your Name on Every Wall
Fandom: Marvel Comics
Characters/Pairings: Steve Rogers/Tony Stark
Summary: The Time Gem throws Steve into the past rather than the future, and in doing so, it gives him the opportunity to undo his past mistakes. But when it turns out that all of his mistakes involve Tony Stark, Steve begins to wonder if he's ever going to be able to mend things between them.
Wordcount: 17.863
Why it's awesome: A story that deals with everything that has gone wrong between Steve and Tony in the past - and not just the recent past. A story in which Steve thinks that all it takes for the world to become a better place is for Tony to change, only to find that, surprisingly, it's not that easy, and it takes two to have a conflict. Bonus happy ending. I like the Steve of this story because he has an ability for self-refection that canon Steve lacks all too often.

Rec-a-weekend 2015 | Week 4

Title: this, too, was myself
Fandom: True Detective
Characters: Rustin Cohle, (Crash), Marty Hart
Summary: “When in Rome, brother. But I do clean up real fuckin' pretty.”
Wordcount: 6.214
Why it's awesome: Fantastic, if heartbreaking, story about Rust's time undercover, the fallout of it, and his general inability to be a part of the world, which is on the rest of the world as much as it is on him.
Title: the water always wins in the end
Fandom: due South
Rating: G
Characters: Benton Fraser (& Ray Vecchio)
Summary: Something is killing Fraser from within. An old ritual is supposed to help him find and fight the reason, but maybe Fraser doesn't belive it can and maybe he doesn't even care all that much.
It helps him find something, in any case.
Warnings: character death
Word count: 3.290
Note: For first [community profile] genprompt_bingo card. Prompt: Ritual Marks and Body Decorations
Note 2: I finally finished this after starting it more than a year ago. Go, me! :P

Loosely follows my story else the cold creeps in
