Title: Look Back in Anger
Beta: nightrider101
Artist: quickreaver
Fandom: Supernatural
Characters: Dean, Sam, Castiel, Bobby
Rating: PG
Spoilers: Everything up to and including 6.17.
Word count: ~ 24,000
Summary: When John Winchester is possessed by the yellow-eyed demon and asks his son to kill him, Sam does so and disappears, leaving his injured brother behind in a hospital. As a result of the demon's early death deals are never made and a lot of bad things never happen - but Dean doesn't know that. All he knows is that Sam killed his father and abandoned him.
Looking for answers, Dean chases his brother all through the United States while Sam solves cases he couldn't possibly know about and always remains one step ahead. When Dean finally catches up with him, the answers he gets are not the ones he expected and it looks like no matter what he does, he's only going to lose Sam in the end.
Note: Written for the spn_gen_bigbang.

As always, I have to thank my fantastic beta nightrider101 who made this story a lot better than I could have done on my own. The remaining mistakes are my own and most likely to be found in sequences I added after she had done her magic. Also, there are points where I simply ignored her advice, but that doesn't happen often because I know she knows better than me!

And of course, a lot of thanks goes to quickreaver, my more-than-awesome artist. When I saw she had picked my story I spend half an hour flailing. And I was even more happy after getting in contact with her and finding out what a wonderful person she is. Not only did she do a lot more than the challenge demanded, she also gave me precious advice for my own art. And all that aside: just look at the pictures she created! Aren't they among the best pieces of art you have ever seen?

Last but not least I want to thank reapertownusa without whom this big bang wouldn't have come to be.

This was an awesome story. I'm hoping that you might consider a sequel though. ***bats eyes, pouts and begs***

No sequel planned, sorry. At the moment I'm happy if I can keep up with the projects I already have.

I'm happy you liked it, though!

Hold on a minute! Where are you taking that, young lady?

Very interesting story! Poor confused Dean, stricken Sam. I'm impressed by the amount of thought that must have gone into this, tying the canon stories together in a new way. Also, it worked well that the POV was the new Dean's, and he couldn't figure out how or why Sam knew in advance when a hunt would arise and of what, for example. Engaging and very clever. Enjoyed it a lot!

Thank you! I'm happy you enjoyed it!

Using canon like this was an interesting experience. Especially since my geographical knowledge of the US is limited and I had to consult maps more than once...

huh, timetravel spn-style: kinda fixes what it was supposed to do but with tons of angst as a bonus and someone dying by the end.

also I'm feelin bad about how good it felt to read about Sam!whump

loved all four chapters

btw: is there any chance of little side-story about the talk between Cas and Gabriel? *puppy eyes*

I don't think there is, even though that would be interesting.

Anyway, I'm glad you liked this! m!whump is never something to be sahamed of - see it this way: it means he gets some comfort, too!

I like this story a lot. At first I couldn't figure out why Sam was running from Dean and it was really frustrating. When the answer was revealed it made a lot of sense. Poor Sam was so tired the entire time. When he cried the last time (when he saw the amulet), it broke my heart. I love what you did with the details. How Sam always tried to keep quiet, even when he was crying. He was really fading away, physically, emotionally, and even his voice started to fade. Poor guy! Also love how Dean could comfort Sam in his sleep. It makes me feel all warm and fuzzy and oddly reassured. And thank you for bringing back the amulet! How Sam held on to the amulet, it is beautiful. In my mind, they still have the best time ahead of them, on earth or in heaven. It is too bad that they wasted three years, but it is nothing comparing to eternity, right?

Thank you for the beautiful story that made me so frustrated at the beginning but gave me a wonderful closure.

Thank you so much for your comment. I'm happy you liked it and stuck with it even though it was frustrating in the beginning.

And you're right: the best is still to come for them.

Hi sorry to be a pain in the ass but the PDF (with pictures) link isnt working at all :(
Dec. 2nd, 2011 08:14 am (UTC)
That's odd. I just tested it and it worked fine.
Maybe it was a tempral error?
Dec. 2nd, 2011 08:28 am (UTC)
Very possible. I will proceed to poke 4chan with a stick :)

I just finished reading the pdf with art and I gotta say this is magnificent! I like the angst, and the way you wrote the timeline- its obvious you put alot of work into this. Thank you, one question, is there more?
Jan. 14th, 2012 09:11 pm (UTC)
No, this is it. But I'm very happy that you liked it. And that you took the time to comment - often, this gets forgotten in cases of PDF. Thank you very much!

Is there anyway to dl the PDF without having to sign up for an acct with 4share? (I can't seem to see one...?)
Jul. 24th, 2012 03:32 am (UTC)
It shouln't be a problem to download it without an account, but maybe 4Shared changed that since I originally posted this? Anyway, here's a link to the story on AO3, where you can download the whole things as PDF or for eReaders: http://archiveofourown.org/works/268671

This one is an especially intriguing story. It's so long, I'm wondering where you take the time and patience to stick with it (that's totally my problem - time and patience (maybe more patience) Anyways, Congrats!).

I'm realizing the review is getting kind of longish, so I'll go into the chapters with it and just keep it a short (but precise) Great Story in here.

Sweet Greetings,
sweet co

Thanks again for taking the time to write so many comments! I replies to all of them individually in the chapters.
